Honda Fit Returned for Ignition Threat: 685,000 Models Affected

Around 685,000 Honda Fit sub-compact hatchbacks are being returned because of ignition threat, the automaker informed today.

The return features approximately 143,000 models in the U.S. Under bad conditions, rain or other liquid could enter via the driver’s window and leak into the main power window switch, which over time can cause the switch to overheat and melt. Actually, that could cause a fire. All models from the 2007 and 2008 model years are damaged by the current return.

No accidents or damages have been reported as a result of the defect, but Honda will examine the cars and substitute details that have been affected.

This is not the first time Honda has issued a return, the same problem has happened in 2010. The brand has since determined that the repair didn’t ensure that moisture cannot penetrate the main switch.

Honda has a restricted stock of the details, which is why the return will only now involve fixing cars with damaged equipment. According to Honda, the flaw was revealed during internal examination and not because of client complaints.
