2014 Ford Fusion SE Provides Smaller Motor, Same MPGs

Substituting its 1.6-liter EcoBoost in the Fusion, Ford is providing a slightly smaller 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder motor for the 2014 model year.

According to EPA examinations, the vehicle is officially estimated to return 23 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway. Despite losing a fraction of the old motor’s displacement, output and fuel efficiency stay almost the same. The smaller motor generates 178 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. That’s a loss of 7 lb-ft, but otherwise the two are the same.

It’s true for fuel efficiency as well. The smaller motor is meant to be the mid-size sedan’s highest volume seller and provides the same fuel consumption as its slightly larger sibling. But the 1.5-liter motor’s entrance doesn’t signal an immediate exit for the 1.6 either. Buyers that choose a manual Fusion SE will find the 6-speed stick paired to the 1.6-liter variant.
