See Teaser for Chevrolet Colorado Fuel-Cell Car

GM and the United States Army TARDEC (Tank Automotive Research, Development & Engineering Centre) joined in order to develop a Chevrolet Colorado fuel-cell car.

The vehicle will be created for testing the feasibility of fuel-cell cars usage in military applications. According to the information we have, the car will be extensively modified. It will be aimed at the extremes of every-day military usage for 12 months.

More precise information will be available sometime later. Though, there already is a teaser picture. It shows that the truck should have an innovated front fascia having thinner LED headlamps, large fog lights with red surrounds and a revised radiator enclosure.

Besides eco-friendliness, there is a whole bunch of other advantages. The Colorado FCV will feature a very high low-end torque capability useful for off-road driving. It will be able to provide electricity. Moreover, the car will be really quiet.

As Paul Rogers, the TARDEC Director said, FCVs are extremely quiet cars with specialties that make it premium. Fuel-cell models produce water as a by-production. This ability is useful for a desert, for example.

The range of engines for the Colorado is vast. Customers will be able to get a 2.8-litre turbodiesel unit producing 181 hp and torque of 369 lb-ft. Besides, there will be a 2.5-litre V4 motor generating 200 hp ad torque of 191 lb-ft and a 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine providing 305 hp and torque of 269 lb-ft.
