The second-generation Volvo XC70 premiered at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, switching to the Ford EUCD / Volvo P3 platform shared with the S80 II sedan and V70 III estate. Built as a 5-door wagon, it expanded rugged capabilities with 215 mm of ground clearance, protective wheel arch moldings, dynamic skid plates, and Hill Descent Control (HDC).

Engine choices included 3.2-liter naturally aspirated and 3.0-liter T6 turbocharged inline-six petrol engines, as well as 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter D4/D5 turbodiesel engines. Front-wheel drive versions joined the traditionally Haldex AWD lineup. A 2013 refresh modernized the exterior with a wider honeycomb grille, LED daytime running lights, a digital instrument cluster, and new four-cylinder Drive-E engines.
