The second-generation Volvo XC60 was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017. Built on Volvo's modular Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), it adopted the brand's contemporary design language characterized by Thor's Hammer LED daytime running lights and vertical taillights. Manufactured as a 5-door crossover SUV, it advanced driver-assistance features by incorporating Steering Support into City Safety, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving capabilities.

The powertrain family consists of 2.0-liter four-cylinder Drive-E engines. Petrol options range from T5 to supercharged T6 variants, while diesel engines include D4 and D5 choices. Plug-in hybrid options are badged T8 Twin Engine / Recharge, alongside B-series mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines. A high-performance Polestar Engineered edition offers upgraded Öhlins suspension and Akebono brakes. A 2021 update integrated an Android Automotive OS infotainment system and subtle exterior trim refinements.
