The Volkswagen ID.4 electric compact crossover with body code E21 launched in September 2020. Built upon the MEB modular electric drive matrix, the ID.4 is manufactured across global sites in Europe, China, and the United States. It features an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.28, standard digital ID.Cockpit displays, and optional IQ.Light LED matrix headlights. It earned World Car of the Year honors in 2021.

Powertrain configurations include single-motor rear-wheel drive (170 hp to 286 hp) and dual-motor AWD / GTX variants (up to 340 hp). Battery options of 52 kWh and 77 kWh offer ranges up to 530 km (WLTP). Model updates for 2024 integrated high-efficiency APP550 electric motors and updated 12.9-inch touchscreen hardware.
