Unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, the first generation Subaru XV (GP platform) transformed the four-generation Impreza hatchback into a rugged compact crossover. It featured a raised suspension providing 220 mm of ground clearance, durable black body cladding, roof rails, and distinctive two-tone alloy wheels. Engines included 1.6-liter FB16 and 2.0-liter FB20 naturally aspirated petrol units alongside the 2.0-liter EE20 boxer diesel engine. The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike. Power was sent to the Symmetrical AWD system via 5-speed/6-speed manual transmissions or the Lineartronic CVT. A mild-hybrid powertrain (XV Crosstrek Hybrid) arrived in 2013. A 2015 facelift updated the front fascia trim, rear taillights, and infotainment head unit before global production wrapped up in 2017. Designers placed a strong emphasis on cabin ergonomics, occupant visibility, and long-distance driving comfort.
