The Scion xD made its public debut at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show as the official successor to the subcompact Scion xA. Built on Toyota's global B platform (chassis code XP110), the model was closely related to the second-generation Japanese-market Toyota ist and the European Toyota Urban Cruiser. Compared to the outgoing xA, the xD offered more angular, aggressive styling characterized by sharp hood lines, prominent fender flares, and an imposing front fascia. The vehicle was equipped with an efficient 1.8-liter 2ZR-FE dual VVT-i four-cylinder engine developing 128 horsepower, coupled with either a standard five-speed manual or an optional four-speed automatic transmission. Interior packaging featured a unique concentric gauge cluster combining both speedometer and tachometer in a single display, alongside 60/40 split-sliding rear seats. Distributed exclusively throughout the United States and Canada, the xD remained in production until 2014 without major exterior restyling.
