The Scion xA (chassis code XP60) was a subcompact five-door hatchback produced from 2004 to 2006, serving as one of the two foundational vehicles used to launch Toyota's youth-oriented Scion marque in the United States. Mechanically identical to the Japanese-market first-generation Toyota ist, the xA was constructed on the lightweight Toyota NBC platform shared with the Toyota Yaris, Echo, and Platz. Power came from a durable 1.5-liter 1NZ-FE DOHC four-cylinder engine with VVT-i, producing 108 hp and 142 Nm of torque, channeled to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The model featured a distinctive tall-roof body style providing excellent interior headroom, standard anti-lock brakes, premium Pioneer sound system, and extensive personalization packages. A subtle mid-cycle update in 2006 brought revised front and rear bumpers, integrated turn signals on side mirrors, new seat fabrics, and audio controls on the steering wheel, before being succeeded by the Scion xD in 2007.
