The first generation of the Scion tC (chassis code ANT10) was produced from 2004 to 2010 as a dedicated sports coupe aimed at younger buyers in North America. Built on the front-wheel-drive Toyota MC platform shared with the European Toyota Avensis T250, the tC featured a three-door liftback configuration offering substantial cargo versatility. It was powered by a 2.4-liter 2AZ-FE inline-four engine producing 160–161 hp and 221 Nm of torque, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. A key selling point was its generous standard equipment, which included an expansive panoramic glass moonroof, 17-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and Pioneer premium audio, alongside extensive factory tuning support via Toyota Racing Development (TRD), such as an optional supercharger kit. A mid-cycle refresh in 2007 introduced redesigned headlights, a modern grille pattern, updated taillights, and refreshed interior trim components.
