The Scion iM was introduced in 2015 for the 2016 model year as a sporty compact five-door hatchback derived directly from the European-market second-generation Toyota Auris (E180 series). Built on the Toyota New MC platform, the vehicle utilized a front-wheel-drive layout with MacPherson front struts and a double-wishbone rear suspension setup, delivering dynamic handling and refined ride quality. Power came from a 1.8-liter 2ZR-FAE naturally aspirated inline-four gasoline engine with Valvematic variable valve lift technology, generating 137 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque. It was offered with either a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVTi-S) featuring sport mode and seven pre-programmed simulated gear ratios. The Scion iM came standard with an aggressive aero body kit, 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 7-inch Pioneer touchscreen infotainment system. Following Toyota's decision to discontinue the youth-oriented Scion marque in 2016, the model was rebranded and continued sales as the Toyota Corolla iM for the 2017 and 2018 model years.
