The Scion iA debuted in 2015 at the New York International Auto Show as an entry-level subcompact sedan developed through a collaboration between Toyota and Mazda. Built on the front-wheel-drive Mazda DJ platform, the car was effectively a rebadged and restyled fourth-generation Mazda2 sedan featuring a unique front fascia with a prominent hexagonal grille. Power came from Mazda's 1.5-liter SkyActiv-G naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 106 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque, paired with either a standard 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 6-speed automatic with a Sport mode. Standard equipment was exceptionally generous for the subcompact segment, including a low-speed pre-collision safety system, keyless entry with push-button start, and a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with a console-mounted rotary controller. Following the discontinuation of the Scion brand in 2016, the model was transitioned into the Toyota lineup as the Toyota Yaris iA.
