There are Rumours about Lexus LS Powered on Hydrogen for 2017

Rumours are about Lexus making plans for a hydrogen-powered variant of its headmost sedan.

Toyota made headlines with its Mirai in the 2014 at the Auto Show in Los Angeles. Though, the gap between the arriving and spreading technology might be smaller than expected. The automaker has not established its plans yet, but Motoring says that Lexus is preparing a hydrogen variant of the LS for 2017.

A report from an unnamed source states that the offering will use a readjusted variant of the Mirai engine created to fit into the LS, which is a front-engine, back-drive vehicle. Looks like the automaker will revise the front end with larger intakes for cooling the electric system. A fuel cell will be placed under the front seats and a hydrogen tank under the back seats. The second tank is located under the back stealth shelf and eats into cargo capacity.

Reportedly, the FCEV LS is targeted at the American market. It will be positioned above the present high-class LS 600h L which is priced around $120,000. Therefore, the offering will be very expensive and will be placed above the costly Tesla Model S.
