Hyundai Planning Fresh Crossover for U.S. Lineup: CEO

Hyundai Motor America is thinking over the addition of a fresh little crossover to its model lineup, according to CEO John Krafcik.

Nowadays, the Korean brand offers the Santa Fe and Tucson crossovers for the U.S. market, but Krafcik hopes that Hyundai is “very under-represented” in the crossover section. According to Krafcik, Hyundai currently possesses 7-% share of the U.S. sedan market, but only 2 % of the truck section.

The refreshed 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and 7-seater Santa Fe has been off to a hot start, with strong deliveries making it difficult for Hyundai to even keep up with manufacture.

Though there aren’t any exact plans to add another crossover to its lineup in the near future, Krafcik hints that Hyundai’s next fresh model could be a compact crossover. He hopes that there’s “a lot of action in stuff below RAV4- and Tucson-sized cars,” and that a new section is appearing.
