RAM 1500 is Industry-First Half-Ton Diesel Pickup

Just emancipated and hitting new road, Chrysler’s Ram pickup truck auto brand just claimed that the RAM 1500 pickup truck will be available current year equipped with a diesel V6.

When they come in the 3rd quarter of 2013 as a 2014 vehicle, it will be the first time a light-weight pickup truck is delivered with a diesel motor.

“Truck drivers have been constantly asking for it, and Ram will be the only brand to provide a diesel powertrain in the half-ton segment with the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel,” said Ram Head Fred Diaz.

A 3.0-liter diesel motor will be equipped to an 8-speed automatic transmission and is will offer best-in-class fuel economy ad torque. Chrysler still hasn’t revealed official figures for the diesel Ram 1500, but this is the same motor Jeep will soon put in the Grand Cherokee. In that case, it provides 420 lb-ft of torque, can tow up to 7,400 pounds and is said to reach 30 mpg on the highway.

“The half-ton truck market is highly aggressive, and although Ram 1500 has got a lot of prestigious awards, we cannot rest on what we have done, we must keep on going,” Diaz announced.

Remark: the RAM 1500 is going to be the industry’s only diesel half-ton, not the industry’s first.
