Infiniti May Introduce a 600-HP High-Performance Version of Its Largest SUV

Key Highlights:

  • Infiniti is reportedly working on a sportier QX80 model with 600 horsepower.
  • This could serve as a preliminary step toward a version influenced by the 650-hp QX80 Track Spec concept.
  • The enhanced QX80 is expected to launch in spring next year.

In recent years, Infiniti has streamlined its lineup, discontinuing many cars to concentrate on SUVs and crossovers. The 2024 release of the new QX80 may soon be complemented by a performance-focused edition.

Brian Maragno, Infiniti’s product marketing director, shared with Automotive News that this upcoming model represents a “first step” toward offering a sportier take inspired by the QX80 Track Spec concept. The new variant is designed to deliver “an elevated level of performance” without fully embracing the concept’s extremes.

According to an insider familiar with the plans, the upgraded QX80 will produce around 600 horsepower and is anticipated to hit dealerships next spring. Features might include 24-inch wheels, distinctive S badging, and prominent red brake calipers. Maragno emphasized that the modifications will be “noticeable but not overwhelming.”

The standard QX80 is powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine generating 450 horsepower and 515 lb-ft of torque. The performance variant is expected to carry the Red Sport emblem and come with a roughly 10% price increase compared to the base model.

With the 2026 QX80 starting at $85,940 (including destination fees), the upgraded version could approach a $95,000 price point. Infiniti is reportedly planning a limited run of only 600 units for this enhanced edition.

Our Perspective: To compete with performance divisions like Mercedes-AMG and BMW M, Infiniti will need a broader range of high-powered vehicles. Launching a 600-horsepower QX80 is a promising initial move, and we look forward to seeing how the lineup develops.
