Citroen to Unveil All-Electric 2CV Concept at Paris Motor Show
French automaker Citroen has officially confirmed plans to revive the iconic 2CV model. The public premiere of the concept will take place at the Paris Motor Show, scheduled for October 12 to 18, 2026.
The legendary car, once nicknamed the "ugly duckling" due to its distinctive appearance, will return to the market as a compact urban electric vehicle. The company describes the concept's philosophy as a modern reinterpretation of simplicity, practicality, and affordability without unnecessary nostalgia.
The classic Citroen 2CV was produced from 1948 to 1990, selling more than five million units worldwide. Its key hallmarks were always structural minimalism, low weight, and an affordable price tag.
Judging by the published teasers, the styling of the new model will retain the key retro cues of its predecessor: distinctive bulbous front fenders with mounted lights, a ribbed hood, and stylized wheels. At the same time, certain elements have undergone a modern redesign; for instance, the headlight shape is now midway between a circular and rectangular outline.
The production version of the electric 2CV will enter production in 2028. The base price is stated at under 15,000 euros, positioning the model to become one of the most affordable electric cars on the European market, undercutting the Dacia Spring and Renault Twingo.
Vehicle manufacturing will be set up at the Stellantis facility in Pomigliano d'Arco (Italy), which will also produce the next-generation Fiat Panda built on the same platform. Detailed technical specifications have not yet been announced, but it is confirmed that the new model will receive an exclusively all-electric powertrain with no hybrid versions.
