Celebrating 50 Years of BFGoodrich’s Legendary Off-Road Tire

The Legacy of the All-Terrain T/A

  • BFGoodrich introduced the All-Terrain T/A tire in 1976.
  • Within a year, this tire powered victories in the Baja 500 and 1000 races.
  • BFGoodrich has participated in 50 Baja 1000 races and has been SCORE's official tire supplier for 48 years.

For decades, BFGoodrich has been a cornerstone of off-road tire innovation. Their All-Terrain T/A tire has supported countless teams chasing triumphs in some of the toughest desert races. As 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of this radial tire, the brand reflects on its storied history.

Launched in 1976, the Radial All-Terrain T/A quickly became synonymous with rugged off-road capability. The distinctive white lettering on its sidewalls has become a badge of reliability for enthusiasts.

BFGoodrich and Desert Racing Success

From the outset, BFGoodrich tested the All-Terrain T/A in the harsh conditions of desert racing. Insights gained from the 1976 Baja 1000 led to multiple class victories the following year. By 1986, the tire had propelled BFGoodrich to its first overall win in the Baja 1000.

Today, every BFGoodrich all-terrain tire proudly bears the "Baja Champion" emblem. The brand’s lineup has expanded to include specialized tires like the HD-Terrain for heavier vehicles, the KM3 for mud terrain, and race-specific models tailored for competition.

The All-Terrain T/A’s popularity has made BFGoodrich a name closely linked to off-road excellence, with numerous class wins at the Baja 1000. By 2010, BFGoodrich had achieved its 70th overall SCORE victory in this iconic desert race.

In 2024, BFGoodrich launched the 5th generation of the Radial All-Terrain T/A, known as the KO3. This model builds upon the strengths of its predecessor, the KO2, offering enhanced performance and durability.

Over fifty years, tire technology has advanced substantially. Racing success has fueled innovations that benefit everyday drivers, allowing BFGoodrich to celebrate half a century of producing outstanding tires.

Expert Perspective

Although other manufacturers have introduced capable off-road tires, including favorites like the Toyo Open Country and Falken Wildpeak, BFGoodrich remains a leader thanks to its extensive experience and proven race results. This expertise delivers a tire designed to excel both on challenging trails and everyday roads.
