MINI wants to produce the Superleggera Concept

Peter Schwarzenbauer, the BMW Board Member, has announced that MINI is going to present a production variant of the Superleggera concept.

Autocar reveals that Schwarzenbauer said the automaker is seriously working to make this viable. The project is economically challenging. Final decision has not been taken yet, but a lot of his colleagues are struggling for it.

Reports from Autocar suggest that the vehicle will have front-wheel drive UKL platform, though the offering did not receive green light yet. It was also reported that it will get an assortment of already known V3 and V4 petrol and diesel motors.

Gossips about a plug-in hybrid version were heard. This offering would use the identical powerplant as the coming-soon BMW 2-Series Active Tourer pug-in hybrid. This model is equipped with a 1.5-litre TwinPower Turbo engine generating 136 hp (or 100 kW) and torque of 220 Nm (or 162 lb-ft). Its electric motor is capable of delivering 88 hp (or 65 kW) and torque of 165 Nm (or 122 lb-ft). The engine sends power to the front wheels and the electric motor gives its power to the rear wheels.

The MINI Superleggera will be produced in four years if everything works out. The model will become a rival to the Mazda X5.
